Description
This is an immature Ground Hornbill taken in the Kruger National Park located in South Africa. As the Bird matures he will get a lot more red coloration on the skin around his face and under the chin. This is considered one of the big six Birds in southern Africa and is endangered. I have been very blessed to see them on almost every trip I have made to the African Continent.

You are introducing me to birds I didn't know existed! Look at the eyelashes on this bird! Such fantastic detail -- and is that a wattle, like a turkey has? I'm fascinated!
MaryJane Sesto replied:
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments, Lori, yes, it is considered a wattle. This is the largest Hornbill in the World. They eat insects, reptiles, tortoises, lizards, small mammals, and arachnids.
