This is an immature Ground Hornbill taken in the Kruger National Park located in South Africa. As the Bird matures he will get a lot more red coloration on the skin around his face and under the chin. This is considered one of the big six Birds in southern Africa and is endangered. I have been very blessed to see them on almost every trip I have made to the African Continent.

The people, sights, smells, sounds, sunrises, sunsets, landscapes, animals and birds bring so much joy to my heart, my whole life has changed. From my very first trip in1993 to South Africa and Zimbabwe to my last trip to South Africa and Namibia, every time I return home I can't wait to start planning my next trip. Thank you so much for your wonderful comments, Lori, yes, it is considered a wattle. This is the largest Hornbill in the World. They eat insects, reptiles, tortoises, lizards, small mammals, and arachnids.
